Netflix To Release First Kuwaiti Series

American streaming giant Netflix is continuing to cater to its regional audience with a new Arabic-language production set to hit screens on Sept. 23. Over the past few months, the platform has been putting a considerable amount of effort into supporting Arab cinema, its creators, and facilitating the development of homegrown stories and tales. Coming after Jinn and Al Rawabi School For Girls, The Cage will mark the California-based company’s first project in Kuwait and the latest to be hailing from the Middle East.  

Produced by Kuwaiti actor Abdullah Boushahri, who is known for his role in the thrill-inducing Europa, and directed by Jasem Almuhanna, the filmmaker behind Alnamous, the 8-episode-long series will star several of the Gulf country’s favorite faces, including Khaled Ameen, Hussain AlMahdi, Rawan Mahdi, Lamya Tareq, and Hessah Al-Nabhan.

The series will explore the highs and lows of marital life. In order to help a married couple, played by AlMahdi and Rawan Mahdi, salvage their marital union, Ameen, stepping into the shoes of a social counsellor, attempts to help the pair reignite the fire between the two. As he works towards mending their connection by addressing each other’s differences, the counsellor eventually also finds himself facing his own lot of difficulties he struggles to navigate through himself. Spanning over the course of 10 years, the dramedy aims at challenging the ways in which marital life is portrayed in the regional silver screen industry through the above-mentioned couple. 

The production is expected to be Netflix’s stepping stone into Kuwait as the streaming website recently announced working on several other projects that will include a slew of prominent talent in their cast. As of right now though, no further information about their next ventures plot or debut have been shared, only building more excitement towards their next region-centered releases.
